Green Initiatives

Every home at Novel NoDa is green certified through the Home Innovation Labs National Green Building Standard.
Additional environmental, social and economic considerations include:

  • A true mixed-use development seamlessly blending retail, residences and transit
  • The NoDa neighborhood is walkable and one of the most active neighborhoods in Charlotte
  • Future light rail station on site – you couldn’t get any closer to the transit stop if you tried
  • Infill brownfield site – selection and repurposing of an existing site in place of using undisturbed land
  • ENERGY STAR Cool Roof to minimize heat island effect and reduce building cooling needs
  • 75% of the lighting fixtures in the buildings are ENERGY STAR rated
  • 100% of the refrigerators, dishwashers, and clothes washers are ENERGY STAR rated
  • All bathroom fixtures are low-flow: bathroom faucets, shower heads, and toilets
  • Trash and recycling chutes throughout the building with trash/recycling bins in most apartment unit kitchens and valet waste pick up for residents
  • Hydro-zoning of native/regionally appropriate plantings to ensure plants with similar water needs are grouped together
  • Drip irrigation is implemented to planting beds
  • Only 40% of landscapable area is turf grass resulting in less mowing, fertilizers and water use
  • Stormwater management plan implemented to maintain the pre-development runoff hydrology

In addition to the NGBS focus on development and operations, Novel NoDa follows the Crescent Communities Tree for a Key tradition. Understanding the impact development can have on the land, Crescent has partnered with Trees Charlotte to donate and plant one tree for every lease that is signed. Since launching the program in early 2016, more than 600 trees have been planted through this program. More information is available at www.TreeForAKey.com.
